Nicholas Baker is a multi-instrumentalist, specializing in drum set, vibes, and percussion. He performs with three Albuquerque bands regularly: Baracutanga, Wagogo, and Cali Shaw Band and frequently with other groups such as RockFox, PANdemonium and Zoltan Orkestar. Hr composes music for the marimba, voice, and for mixed ensembles which he performs at local grower’s markets and other venues.
He is currently engaged in the study of Afro-Cuban drumming and South Indian vocal music. As an educator, he teaches private lessons at his studio in the north valley of Albuquerque, and have become a mainstay with the New Mexico Jazz Workshop, teaching a middle school rock band with the Empowerment Through Music Program. He teaches a hand drumming class for the Albuquerque Academy's Summer Session. He also helps leading and accompanying the Dances of Universal Peace and local kirtans in Albuquerque.
