ABOUT THE GLOBAL JAZZ INSTITUTE
The Berklee Global Jazz Institute (BGJI) is a performance program designed to foster creativity and musicianship through various musical disciplines, with pianist and composer and Grammy winner Danilo Pérez as its artistic director.
The BGJI provides a comprehensive contemporary music environment where students are given opportunities to explore their creativity to the highest level possible, advance the power of music as a tool for the betterment of society, and connect musical creative thinking with the natural environment.
Connecting Music with Nature
This is a special interest of Danilo Pérez, which he personally pursues through his work with the Mamoní Valley Preserve in Panama. BGJI students will explore nature as a source of sound, rhythm, harmony, and musical expression, and discover ways the natural world can influence creativity and imagination. "The program will provide interactive experiences in uncommon settings, such as the jungle or the forest, where music is used to promote interaction with indigenous cultures and to create awareness about the importance of the restoration of ecology," says Pérez.
